This quilt is titled Refinish because I finished it twice. The 24" center mandala was completed ten years ago, envisioned as a restrained kaleidoscopic image with more background than figure. It’s inspired by the refined, brief moment when a 2-mirror, state-of-the-art-kaleidoscope is first brought to the eye and a few pieces of blown glass floating in a viscous liquid form a slow, symmetrical pattern before exploding into an energetic dance filling the viewing field.

I revisited, revised and refinished the piece in 2023, adding the complex patchwork, provoking some tension between less and more, until the size became the mandatory 40” square.
